Mill Valley California 94941

BlackStone, a California corporation, represents sellers and purchasers of Mill Valley homes - including single family homes, condominiums, and Planned Unit Developments. We practice Single Agency, exclusively, and not Dual Agency. This means that we represent seller clients and buyer clients, but we never represent both on the same parcel of real estate.

This site discusses the multiple listing service; historical sales prices; seller disclosures; buyer inspections; property taxes; mortgage financing; real estate brokerage ..... Issues affecting home ownership such as schools, mass transit, demographics .... are included; as are The BlackStone Commentaries.

This site is NOT intended as a clone of the Chamber of Commerce, lauding the wonders of Mill Valley. THAT, is done well, by the Chamber and others.

MILL VALLEY

The official Mill Valley site provides links to the City's departments, boards and commissions. Included in this site is the Residential Design Review Handbook prepared by the Planning Commission.

The 2000 Census reported the total Mill Valley population at 13,600. Other Year 2000 demographics for Mill Valley, are available at the ABAG site: population, race, sex, age, housing, education. Another excellent demographics site is City-Data.com site.

Within the City of Mill Valley there are certain redwood, oak, madrone, and other trees which have special community value and contribute greatly to the character and scenic beauty of the City. The uncontrolled removal or destruction of these trees threatens to adversely affect scenic beauty, destroy wildlife habitat, reduce privacy, and increase the risk of erosion, mud slides and flooding. It is in the interest of the community health, safety and general welfare to protect and preserve heritage trees by regulating their removal and, where appropriate, encouraging their replacement."

MILL VALLEY SCHOOLS

Mill Valley School District

"Welcome to Mill Valley, California, located just 13 miles north of beautiful San Francisco. Our public school district is comprised of five elementary schools and one middle school with an enrollment of 2,325 students. Providing the best possible education for Mill Valley students is our goal. The district's mission that "children are a community treasure" symbolizes our commitment to provide the finest education possible for every student."

School Placement Rules for the District.

Old Mill School

"Old Mill School, the District's oldest elementary school building, has recently been completely renovated. This modern facility incorporates computer technology and internet access in all of its classrooms and the library/media center. The school is three blocks from Mill Valley's business district and across from Old Mill Park and the Mill Valley Public Library. The facility has a large auditorium and 14 classrooms. Old Mill provides students with a well balanced academic program integrating thematic instruction and project based learning activities. Students and teachers use Cascade Creek in nearby in Old Mill Park as an outside learning environment. Part-time instructional aides assist teachers by working with small groups and individual students. On-site child care in available before and after school. "

Edna Maguire School

"Edna Maguire is a K-5 Elementary School of the Mill Valley School District in Mill Valley, California. A winner of the California Distinguished School Award in 1998, it boasts a dedicated faculty, excellent staff, an active and involved parent population, and of course 500+ of the best and brightest kids we know!"

Tam Valley School

Strawberry Point School

"Almost 50 years ago, following construction delays and the students beginning the school year at other schools in Mill Valley, the original opening and dedication of Strawberry Point School took place on December 7, 1952. Now, as we enter the 21st century and re-open our school, we have the wonderful opportunity to create a new learning community that reflects the values and priorities of the next generation of families to raise children in the Strawberry Point community."

Mill Valley Middle School

"Mill Valley Middle School is a public school serving grades, 6-8, located in Marin County, California. Here we enjoy the natural beauty of Mount Tamalpais, in picturesque Mill Valley, just 13 miles north of San Francisco. Dedicated staff, spirited students, involved parents and a supportive community work together to provide a healthy learning environment where academic excellence and social well-being are valued."

Tamalpais High School

" The ultimate purpose of Tamalpais High School is to prepare the young people of this community to become better men and women in whatever walk of life they may engage. We do this by maintaining a learning community that celebrates diversity, honors excellence, and provides students the opportunity to question, create, think, and dream."

For links to private schools in Mill Valley try the Online Guide to Bay Area Private Schools.

For STAR test results see our Marin site.

Also, any school can be compared to other schools in the District, the County and the State using the Education Data Partnership site. From the "Reports" menu select "Schools". After entering "Marin" in the County field, then select any elementary, middle or high school district. Then, from "Related Links" choose "Compare Schools". In the grid for "Compare schools" pay attention to each field to insure that the result matches your search: eg, comparing one school to all in the County.

CRIME DATA

The Marin County Sheriff: The Department is charged with law enforcement outside of incorporated areas, which are divided into four areas. The unincorporated neighborhoods of Southern Marin are in Area 1.

The Attorney General: This Office logs crime statistics for every city and county in California. The County of Marin crime statistics are found on its site.

Megan's Law: since 1999, every lease or rental agreement for real property, or real property sales contracts for residential real property, must contain written notice that a prospective purchaser can access the data base containing information about registered sex offenders.

Not a pleasant topic, but it is important to understand how to access the online sex offender database called Megan's Law, and what it contains. It is maintained by the California Attorney General. On entering the site one must first read and consent to a general Disclaimer.

There are seven search modes: by name, city, ZIP Code, or county; or within a predetermined radius of a selected address, park, or school.

There are pictures of every registrant, and most include addresses. The 'more info' link provides tabs for descriptions, offenses, scars/marks, and aliases.
